Highest point in the state of Georgia at an elevation of 4,784 ft. There is a visitors center with an exhibit area at the top and viewing decks. There is a paved 1/2 mile walking path to the visitors center at the top or rides in passenger vans to the top area offered for an nominal fee. Nominal fee for parking in the large visitor area parking lot.
High Shoals Falls
View 2 beautiful waterfalls in one hike at High Shoals. High Shoal Falls is a scenic 1.2 mile path one way and follows along High Shoals Creek. There are observation decks for viewing the falls. There are several campsites in this area for the naturalist.
Lake Chatuge is a 7,050 acre TVA reservoir located in Towns County, Georgia and Clay County, North Carolina. About half of the lake lies in each state. Lake Chatuge is a recreational lake for swimming, boating, skiing, tubing, fishing, etc.
The Georgia Mountain Fair
The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds is located on the shores of Lake Chatuge. The fair is an annual event for 12 days in late July since 1950. More recently they have added a Fall Festival for 9 days in October and a spring Rhododendron Festival in May. Fair includes the Anderson Music Hall which seats 2,700 people, a large carnival area, mountain crafts, pioneer villages, flower and photo exhibit shows. The Fairgrounds also have 2 lake front full facility camping areas with well maintained campsites and a large boat ramp.
